The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications for its prestigious Matriculant of the Year Competition, running for over 40 years. Aimed at top-achieving Matric students of 2025, it rewards excellence in academics, sports, culture, or leadership with bursaries and prizes for full-time study at UFS in 2026. Applicants from any Quintile 1–5 school, private school, or home-schooling background must submit a signed application form with certified results and a photograph by 1 August 2025. The selection process involves shortlisting 25 semi-finalists, interviewing 14 finalists in October, and crowning a winner at a gala dinner.

Eligibility Criteria:Applicants must:
- Be currently in Matric in 2025
- Intend to study full-time at UFS in 2026
- Be a top-achieving student in academics, sports, culture, or leadership
- Attend any Quintile 1–5 school, private school, or be home-schooled
- Agree to the terms and conditions on the application form
Selection Process:
- 25 semi-finalists will be shortlisted based on application forms
- 14 finalists will be invited for interviews in October 2025
- A winner will be selected based on personal achievements and spirited personality, and announced at a gala dinner
