The South African Road Federation (SARF) invites applications for its partial study bursary for the 2025 academic year. This funding opportunity supports students in critical fields related to the road and transport sector, including Road Safety Engineering, Road Transport Economics, Civil Engineering, and Transportation Planning. The bursary is open to residents of South Africa and SADC countries who are registered at recognised South African tertiary institutions. Applicants must have passed their first-year or S1 exams and intend to work in South Africa’s road transport industry post-graduation. Preference is given to advanced-level students (MTech/MSc) and employees of SARF member organizations. In return for the partial financial assistance, recipients must present their research, submit bi-annual reports, and register as SARF associate members. Applications require institutional endorsement and must be submitted by 31 August 2025.

What the Bursary Covers

This is a partial bursary to assist with study-related expenses. Recipients will be required to:

  • Present on their study topic at a SARF local branch
  • Submit bi-annual progress reports
  • Register as associate members of the SARF

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the SARF bursary, you must:

  • Be a resident of South Africa or an SADC country
  • Be studying in one of the specified fields
  • Be registered at a recognised South African tertiary institution
  • Have your application endorsed by the academic authority at your institution
  • Have passed:
  • S1 exams for National Diploma students
  • First-year exams for Degree students
  • Preferably be studying full-time (part-time and distance learning also considered)
  • Intend to work in South Africa’s road transport industry after graduation
  • SARF member employees will be given preference
  • Preference also given to advanced-level students (MTech, MSc, or higher)
